Hypnotherapy Questions Answered…

Having completed my Professional Doctorate in Clinical Hypnotherapy* (June 2006), combined with over 450 hours of classroom study in Hypnotherapy, I consider myself suitably qualified to deal with most behavioral matters of the mind. Hypnotherapy London
As well being trained in Hypnotherapy, I am also a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Licensed by the Society of NLP.
As Hypnotherapy is not yet government regulated in the United Kingdom, be careful when booking a therapist as there are plenty practicing having trained distance learning only, with no practical supervision ever taken place.
My insurance is with Towergate / SMG Professional Risks, covering Hypnotherapy Practise up to £2,000,000 liability.
So you can book with confidence, I am qualified, accredited, registered and insured.

I offer a free consultation by phone to see if Hypnosis and NLP can benefit you, please call me directly to arrange this. More importantly, use it to meet me and to decide if I am the right therapist for you. I pride myself on being able to gain an instant friendly rapport with most people, book an appointment and judge for yourself…you can always bring someone with you.
If you wish to book a free phone consultation, please state this when booking an appointment.

Yes, anyone can be hypnotised as long as they want to be and have an ability to concentrate, everyone goes into natural altered (otherwise known as ‘trance’) states at some point. It is not appropriate for very young children or people with certain mental disabilities. I can not force you to go into hypnosis against your will.
-
One of the most important parts of the initial phone consultation is for the therapist to create the correct expectation of the therapy and more importantly, what it is like to be in ‘trance’. Please remember you are conscious throughout the whole experience.
With the approaches and techniques I use, the required state will be reached for therapy to commence. That is why I do not book my sessions hourly, so that time can be taken as everyone is different and some people take a little longer than others.

This is a very common question. If you are intelligent then this is a bonus as you need to concentrate to allow this process to happen. If you have imagination and are prepared to act out in your mind what I will ask you to do then this will simply work.
This is essentially self Hypnosis with me only guiding your mind.
-
Yes. I am a full time father and I manage to gain a good rapport with children. Naturally, any client under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
-
No, you remain in control at all times. I or any other Hypnotherapist cannot have control over you.
-
Out of all the Hypnotherapy questions, this is one of the most common. Any Hypnotherapist will not make you do anything you would not normally do. This area of misconception is left for Stage Hypnotists.

The trance state is simply an altered state of awareness, in which the client’s attention is focussed on inner resources. Although everyone’s experience of trance is slightly different, you’ll always feel both comfortable and relaxed, and may experience a pleasant sense of “drifting” and detachment from your surroundings.
-
Although every session is different, I will first discuss in some detail the changes you want to achieve, and then explain how it all works so it will relate to the therapy used. Everything is then geared to achieving that positive outcome.
Progressive relaxation will be used to achieve a resourceful and relaxed physical and mental state. I then induce trance and make powerful therapeutic suggestions, tailored to the client as a unique individual, to the unconscious part of the client’s mind, in order to achieve the positive outcome.

Even if the ‘cause’ is linked to a past event, it doe’s not have to be re-lived. There are many approaches that can be taken; I only deal with the ‘cause’ if it is necessary. Why re-live a situation when the ‘effect’ can be ‘reframed’, still resulting in life long, permanent change. Instead of the one dimensional approach that is the norm, each client that I see is treated as an individual, tailoring the therapy accordingly.

To stop smoking just one single session will normally be required. For anything else, that depends on your motivation and desire to change. Everybody is different. However, Hypnotherapy is a very effective therapy and I will want to help you in the minimum number of sessions possible. We will review your progress so that at any time you can make a valued judgement about how the therapy is progressing and if any more sessions will be required.
Out of all the Hypnotherapy questions there are, this is one that cannot be answered in advance if any Hypnotherapy is honest. Some Hypnotherapists will try to sign you up in advance, I look at dealing as much as I can in the first session then deal with whatever is left afterward. Everyone is an individual as responds differently. 1-3 will cover most issues.
-
Each session lasts from 90 minutes – 2.5 hours. The ‘quit smoking in one session’ lasts approx 2.5 hours (this can be shortened if required but it will have a lower success rate).
-
Yes, 100%
-
This depends on the type of problem and on the progress made. I will usually see you once a week if it is not one session treatable. However, some clients see me once a fortnight or even once a month depending on the circumstances.
-
It is not advised as being around someone you know well may alter what you say in and out of therapy. If you can only feel comfortable with somebody with you, this is allowed.
-
Yes, this is not a problem. Afterwards you feel very relaxed, as though you have had a thirty minute doze. Even if sleep has not taken place you will be more than ready for the rest of the day, just feeling good, calm and confident that change has taken place.
-
First session costs £95 (1.5 – 2.5 hours). The ‘Quit Smoking’ single session is £150. Please note that all prices are for ‘Professional Time’ and not based on guaranteed success. A minimum of twenty four hours notice is required to cancel or rearrange appointments or a 50% cancellation fee may be charged.

* Please note, I am not a General Practitioner or Medical Doctor. The American Institute of Hypnotherapy (AIH) Doctorate was approved by the California Bureau for private postsecondary & vocational education. Therefore, the degree is ‘approved’ and not ‘accredited’ and is (as of the time of writing) the 2nd most in-depth qualification worldwide in Clinical Hypnotherapy. There are practitioners in the UK, Australia, worldwide (especially America) that use the title ‘Dr.’ with this qualification. I do not use this title. The DCH from the AIH which I hold is not to be confused with other Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy qualifications offered on the internet.
